James's vocals and guitar for this album were recorded live in January 2010 in Scott Callan's home studio known as "The Wren's Nest" in Ithaca, NY. The tracks remained dormant for nearly a year until they were looked at once again while James was spending time in the Adirondack Mountains. All that remained of the songs were the previously mixed vocals and guitar on one track. One song, "Desert Snow," contained skips and glitches and was discarded. With the original recordings no longer in existence, James began sending the remaining mixed tracks back to Scott who added bass, synth, keys, and drums in November-December 2010. Fiddle, recorded in a living room in Upper Jay, NY, was added by Annika Amstutz in November 2010. Backing vocals were added by Michelle Nancarrow in December 2010. The album was mixed and mastered by James in between a small Adirondack cabin and Michigan, and finished in January of 2011.
